Sailor Moon Crystal Interview

Interview with Key-Sun by Orange Peel

Orange Peel --

Hello! I decided not to stay up until 5 am to watch Sailor Moon.
But I did the MOMENT I woke up It's pretty dang close to amazingly perfect!
The only things I'm not a fan of is the transformation scene and the OP/ Ending Songs.
I like Momoiro Clover Z but I miss the original songs... and the Transformation Scene is horrible CG lol, oh well. So far the character animation for Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask is sooo beautiful! As a girl Tuxedo Mask looks even more handsomer than before

I then asked my friend Key-Sun about what his opinion.

Key-Sun--

I have this in my queue which let's me know when the next episode is due out and updates when it's ready (CR Acct). I was actually up at 5 to see it, but it not only pushed back an hour, the stream was not availble till after nine.
First, in case I hadn't mentioned it already, I loved the live action PGSM series, so Toei handling the anime too was good sign for me. This was definitely a lot easier to watch than the original series in terms of production, pacing, performance.
The sound was something else; I have REALLY high expections moving foward. It did a great job of bringing the story up to date, provided that celestial air that the manga captured perfectly but the original series didn't do as well. At the same time, the music got so epic so quickly that it indicates a problem that might become more noticeable as the series wears on.
Personally, I liked the OP but not the ED, but had mixed feelings about the transformation sequence. Since SM has been so influential in anime, that a lot of mahou shoujo series have either tried to imitate it ( wedding peach), improve upon it (cardcaptor sakura), or just outright do it in overdrive (nanoha, BRS). It's like they had to choose whether to play it straight, try to outdo the series it's inspired, or present it as a historical document well aware of its own weight. They've gone for a combination of the last two, so there's this heavy amount of foreshadowing to events they know the audience knows are coming, and treating each introduction with a grandiose flourish: introducing each supporting character emphatically, the moon tiara as being able to save the before it's revealed the world needs to be saved, and of course the most epic (and comparatively short) magical girl tranformation sequence to remind fans where the trope started. Of course, I still haven't seen any of the original Creamy Mami(?) series that started the mahou shoujo genre, and SM was always intended to be a variation if the Sentai series ( Power Rangers) but with magical girls. They have a really tight rope to walk.
Overall, I'm pleased with what I saw and look forward to watching it through!

Thank you for reading!
